Other items you can create using the Android app:
To create items to add to your notes, always begin by tapping the menu button in the top-left corner, and then tapping All Notes. You then tap the + icon in the bottom-right corner of your screen, and select an option from the menu that pops up. Read below to see what you can do with the Android app.
1. Tap on the camera icon to add an image to your note.
Doing this will open your Android device’s camera, where you can take pictures of documents, business cards, and other images. Switch to automatic mode by tapping the framed paper icon in the top-right corner to find documents for you and automatically take the picture once it is in clear view of the camera.
Tap on an image you took and drag it to re-order your images, as they will be saved as one document and added to a note. Tap the green check mark icon when you’re done to save the images you want, and then choose which notebook to add it to the same way you do with regular notes.
You will get the best results by placing your documents on a contrasting background (for example, a white piece of paper on a black table).
2. Tap on the paper clip icon to add an attachment to your note.
From there, your device will open a menu where you can select the storage device from which you would like to attach a file. You can choose images, video, audio, and downloads from your device, or if you have cloud-based storage systems such as Dropbox or Google Drive, you can select items from there as well. Simply tap on one to select it, and then follow the instructions from the new application launched.
3. Tap on the microphone icon to add audio to your note.
Evernote will make a sound that indicates it has started recording, and then will begin a timer in the top-left corner that tells you how long your note is. As you record, you can title the note, and add text to it as well. Click on the timer to save the note and finish recording.
4. Tap on the alarm clock icon to add a reminder to your note.
This will open a window where you can type a reminder to yourself. Tap on the notebook title to open a window with the names of all of your notebooks, and tap on one to choose which notebook the reminder will be applied to. Then tap the calendar icon to open a window, and choose a date by clicking on the calendar square. Tap the word Time to then select a time of day to be notified with the reminder. When you are finished, tap Set.
5. Tap on the pen icon to add handwriting to your note.
In this window, you can write using your finger as if it were a pen on your screen. To change the colour of the text or the thickness of the letters, tap the pen icon again. To erase, tap the eraser icon. Tap the dashed-line square to select your words by drawing lines around them. You can then tap on what you’ve encircled and move it around on the page.
The arrow pointing left will undo your most recent addition, and the arrow pointing right will redo something you have undone. Tap the green check mark icon to save the note. You can edit these just like regular notes by tapping the pencil icon when looking at your handwriting note.
The Work Chat
Evernote allows you to instant message with other Evernote users you have connected with by sharing your notes. This makes it easy to collaborate for work or on group projects. Once you have shared a note, you will automatically be able to begin a chat with your new Evernote contact. To find the Work Chat, tap the menu button in the top-left corner, and tap Work Chat.
The blue + icon allows you to start a new chat by tapping on it. You can then type the name of the person you want to chat with, and tap their name to select them. If you have already started chatting with someone, you can find their name listed under the heading “Suggested chats,” and can click on their name from here to select them. Tap the highlighted box that currently says “Add a message” to begin typing your message. When you have finished, tap Send.
Create a notebook stack
Access your notebooks by tapping the menu button and selecting Notebooks. Select a notebook you want to add to a stack, and select either Move to stack if you’ve already created a stack, or Move to new stack if you would like to create a new one. Your notebooks in one stack will not be linked together.
You can imagine a “stack” like a binder filled with all of your notebooks that are related to each other. It adds a level of organization. An example of when this would be useful is if you use Evernote for school; you can create a notebook for each one of your courses, and then create a stack titled “School Work.”
To change your Android Evernote settings:
Tap the menu button, and select the gear icon titled “Settings.” From here you can change aspects of many of Evernotes functions, including your camera, notebooks, search, connected accounts, notes, work chat, tutorials, synchronization, storage, notifications, and your account info. Alter the settings of any one of these by tapping on it, and then following further instructions. To enable settings, make sure the check box next to it is selected by tapping on it, and to disable it, make sure the check box is empty.
To delete an Evernote note for Android:
Locate the note you want to delete by tapping the menu button and selecting All Notes. Press and hold on the selected note you would like to delete until it is highlighted and shows a green check mark on the left side. Then let go, and tap the trash can icon which will have popped up at the top of the screen.
To access deleted notes, tap the menu button, and then tap the garbage can icon that says “Trash.” You can restore any items you did not mean to delete (for a limited time) by tapping and holding a note until it is highlighted, tapping the more options menu, and finally tapping “Restore notes.”
To delete an Evernote notebook for Android:
Tap the menu button and select Notebooks from the pop-up menu. Tap and hold on your selected notebook to bring up a pop-up menu with additional options. Tap the option that says “Delete.” Then type the word “Delete” into the highlighted box with your keyboard and tap OK to confirm you want to delete this notebook.
To sign out of Evernote:
Tap the menu button in the top-left corner of the application. From here, tap Settings, and then Account Info. Use your finger to swipe to the bottom of the screen and tap Sign Out. Signing out of Evernote is that easy! Make sure you sign out every time you are finished with Evernote to protect your privacy.
